Holidays in south-west England August 08 to 22, 2009
Monday August 10
On Monday we really had some wet weather.
We drove up past Bideford and Barnstaple to Ilfracomes and along the coast (that's the Bristol Channel) to the twin villags on Lynton (on the cliff) and Lynmouth (by the sea).
Here you see some rainy views of Lynmouth, complete with the steam-powered hill railway linking them.

We got to see a little bit of Exmoor National Park on the road to Porlock (Porlock Hill goes down so steeply there's an alternative route signaled, but before the plunge, there's some great landscape. Too wet to take pictures, though.)
And somewhere we found these cows.

Finally, a first glimpse of "our" cows. They are North Devon or Devon Red Ruby, a local breed that features prominently in the Devon coat of arms.
Our hosts have a small herd of currently nine cows (that includes one ox, Derek, and one male calf, Arrow), we got to meet them later in the week.
